Bathtub Derby

We managed to get a great spot, and eventually the sausages were sizzling and soft drinks flowed.  The day and after a windy start, the day turned out to be stunning with perfect racing (and viewing) conditions.   Eugene and our tub featured in the motor category with the second heat featuring mid afternoon.  Euge came in second, and even did a fifth lap after miscounting the necessary four.  And so we got through to the final!  In the end we managed a fantastic 5th place with Eugene’s practice sessions and tub design paying off.

Apart from us of course, stand out entrants included a Batman tub, a bird and a crocodile.  Although we put in a huge effort, coming in at 5th place it was a team called “Rub a Dub Tub” who had a very innovative pedal tub and took away the major prize of a trip for two to Canada to compete in the World Bathtub Champs.

For those of you visiting the office the bathtub is now displayed in our reception.

A huge thanks Dave Tew (Lucy’s husband) who constructed the tub, Jason Bennett (Belindas husband) who spray painted and all those who got involved in the construction and planning.  Also to Eugene for racing the tub and his Brother-in-Law Shane who transported the tub and was our motor expert.  Also to Morwenna, Lucy, Liz, Sara, Alister, Daniel P, and Andrea for organizing such a fantastic day, Bill for providing the motor and of course to Oceanbridge for providing the sausages and refreshments.  We also managed to have over 50 of us with family and friends turn up to cheer on the team through out the day, so thank you for the huge turn out and watch out for our entry next year!
